'Lemon to a Knife Fight' is a song by English rock band the Wombats. It was released as the lead single from the band's fourth album, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, on 7 November 2017. It peaked at #62 on the Australian iTunes chart in November 2017. The music video for the song was released on 29 November 2017.
LEATHER TOWEL came together in 2011 at Wooly Bully, the best record/comix store in Melbourne at the time. It was where Johnny Fitness (guitar, sandwiches) employed The Wuss (bass, barista), Per Person (drums) would take his family on weekends and The Lover (vocals, guitar), would crash on visits up from Geelong. The members of LEATHER TOWEL variously played and still play in Nun, Ooga Boogas, Ausmuteants, Exhaustion, Woollen Kits, Knife Fight and Hierophants. A veritable cavalcade of Weird Punk talent who got together to play hardcore but ended up as a clanging mess of a band travelling six ways at once, stumbling headlong in perfect cohesion at 200kmh. Leather Towel IV is their debut album, twelve songs of white-hot punk scorch that plays out in eighteen minutes. Songs about the cinema, love, fast food and Yoko’s righteous takedown. The most outrageously (fake) punk band any of these jokers have played in and the most bonkers record you will hear all year.
At first blast, the AUSMUTEANTS instantly come to mind before anything else, and of course, that’s due to that very same band’s Jake “The Lover” Robertson’s brash and unhinged vocals & guitar interchange splattering his guts across the room. But this project has far more nuance and panache, as noted by the inclusion of cohorts from NUN, EXHAUSION and OOGA BOOGAS will attest, an attempted swipe at the hardcore template, yet thrown off-balance due to the amount of truck stop cheese whiz and vertigo oozing out of these unhinged scatterbombs as they screech across both sides of this frantic debut LP. It’s an evolved hardcore record for the non-mysterious guy, and the post-punk side trips don’t hurt the effort one bit, further channeling the GORDONS-esque downstrokes and brackish, ugly rhythms which lead to an ultimate climax of irreversible malaise.
It’s not like LEATHER TOWEL need to prove anything, but they went out of their way to do so anyway, removing any further doubt as to the potency and virility of the Australian underground we all know and love, so don’t just fantasize about it, get SNAPPED by LEATHER TOWEL and feel the sting of the real thing, screaming, throbbing, and hanging on for dear life. Also this is the fanciest LP jacket we’ve ever been a part of, better put on some nice slacks, chump.

Lola Black is a band that probably shouldn’t work at all. But realistically that’s one of the reasons they are so damn popular. Loud, vulgar, and loose punk-metal driven by a group of very talented musicians and fronted by the walking and screaming representative of the “it factor” Ms. Lola Black herself. Lola Black, the woman, can walk into a room of rock stars and everyone turns and takes note. I know. I have seen it. And the band itself is made up of Colorado and national badasses. Guitarist Paige O’Meara is from 8 Bucks Experiment, which besides playing with the biggest punk and hardcore bands over their 1,000 shows, was the band in the movie SLC Punk. On the other guitar and backup growls is one of Colorado’s brightest stars Chris Dellinger known for his front man spot in the ground breaking Blister66. Rounding out the band are the masters Mathew Hale on bass, James Rock on drums, and the girl with the ludicrous hair and talent to match Annie Mac on keyboards and programming.
The Lola Black CD Plastic Dashboard Jesus is eight songs of powerful female fronted punk rock with metal overtones that will make you push the “Time to Rock Out” button on your “Is Anybody Looking?” control panel. There is a reason Lola Black just won Westword Magazine’s Best Punk Band award at the 2010 awards 1 week ago. This is Colorado’s highest award and it all comes from the fans.
At the award ceremony I asked Ms. Lola Black about what they were going for with the CD, “It’s a rock your ass off, sing your ass off while you’re in the shower, and a good times music type of CD.”

Guitarist “Crispy” Chris Dellinger had this to say about Lola Black’s sound, “Lola Black is asshole rock. We are all a bunch of assholes and we like to rock out.” Which of course was followed by his signature eat shit grin, but yeah, that basically sums them up perfectly.
My favorite songs on the CD are Lines Between, Words We Say, and Stalker. Check out their tunes on all the usual websites and when they come to your town on tour be sure to go to the show. A Lola Black concert will remind you that punk should be dangerous, cool, and played with reckless abandon. Having talented hot chicks in the band doesn’t hurt either.
